Tribals in Orissa
The district Rayagada was carved out of the erstwhile Koraput district
on 02.10.1992, as part of the extension plan of districts in the state. The
district has a population of 832019, out of which 473379 are tribals.
The Kondhas Tribals (Orissa)
The Kondhas once infamous for their human sacrifice during British
colonialism in India are believed to be from the Proto-Australoid racial stock.
They have a distinct language called "Kui" which has no written script.
The Saoras Tribals (Orissa)
The second backward tribal community is the Saoras. They are known
by various names such as "Savara", "Sabara", "Sora"
and "Soura". They are concentrated in parts of Gunupur adjoining to
the blocks of Gumma, Serango of Gajapati district. The Saoras have their own
dialect.
Tribals in Bastar (Chhattisgarh)
This Divine Land is also enriched with Natural Beauty which makes
it a paradise for tourists.
The deep forest area between bushes and bamboos where one always feel the absence
of sunlight , wide and thick forests , between high mountains cool flowing streams
, sky-touching mountains , caves , high waterfalls , and in the valleys the
spread of greenary and in between this , the huts made by bamboo sticks
Gonds Tribals (Bastar)
Gonds who call themselves 'Koytoria' ,the largest tribal group in
the state in terms of population .Though Gonds can be found almost in all the
districts of the state , there are two important concentration regions
Abhuj Maria Tribals (Bastar)
The Abhuj Maria tribals are
one of the main Gonds tribes.They live in interior forest of Narayanpur Tehsil
of Bastar districts.The area in which they inhabited is known as Abhuj Maria
region which has been spread over 1500 sq miles which is a dense forest area.
Bison Horn Maria Tribals (Bastar)
The Bison Horn Maria tribals is another type of Gonds tribes.Their
culture and living ways is almost similar to Abhuj Marias.They reside in the
south of Indravati river , Jagdalpur Tehsil.
Muria Tribals (Bastar)
Murias are another sub caste of Gonds tribes found in Bastar district.They
live in the Narayanpur and Kondagaon Tehsils of Bastar district.
Halba Tribals (Bastar)
The Halbaas are spread over Madhya Pradesh ,Chhattisgarh , Maharashtra and Orissa.In
Chhattisgarh even though they are found in the districts of Raipur and Durg,
they are mostly found in Bastar district.
